The Future of NFTs in Video Games

Hey, Gamers! We’ve got a fresh new blog for you. If you’re new here, welcome aboard! It’s great to see new faces around here. Speaking of new… There's been quite a great development in the gaming world, and we’d love to dive right into it! What is this amazing development, you ask? The answer is three simple letters - N.F.T. NFTs have recently taken the world by storm over the last couple of years. They didn’t stop there however, as they’re slowly integrating themselves into everyday life. One big step NFTs took was when they entered the world of video games in 2021. They’ve been growing in popularity in the gaming universe since, with a trajectory that looks like it’ll soar for a good while! There’s no doubt that NFTs will hold a great amount of significance with many video game big fish in 2022, while also continuing to enter other industries with the striking power one can only compare to Thor’s hammer, Mjolnir. But, what’s the big deal with NFTs? What are these enigmatic things that seem to be growing even more popular day by day? We’re here to answer just that, and give you a little insight on how these amazing “tokens” may just symbiotically grow with the gaming industry.

Before getting into the details of how NFTs hold a strong position in the future of gaming, we’ll give you insight on what NFTs are to begin with. The acronym “NFT” means “Non-Fungible Token”. This is in reference to digital items. As with all acronyms, the name itself is a little intimidating, but we assure you it’s quite a simple idea. Basically, NFTs act as ownership certificates of digital goods made in limited quantities. NFTs can be used for memes, video clips, digital pictures and art, and even things as abstract as original source codes. They can also be used for super simple things like tweets! When something is seen as “fungible”, it means it’s mutually interchangeable as a commodity, like currency for example. Non-fungible is just the opposite, making most NFT attached items on the online market pretty much priceless. No matter the form of media taken, NFTs act as a certified token of ownership. So if you have an NFT for an item, you pretty much own the certified token for it on a blockchain / digital ledger. In simpler words, you get a special link that acts as proof of your association to that particular asset. Just as a person can own a super sick ride in the real world, NFTs give us the opportunity to own a nice little piece of the digital landscape. It’s kinda like having the deed to a thing that only exists in the beautiful world of the interwebz.

Now that you have a background on what NFTs are, we can tell you what we see in their future when it comes to gaming! Any video game lover will know the value of the time they spend in virtual worlds. It’s so much fun to live in and experience these different realms that act as a meaningful break from reality. When you love something so much, how do you think you can experience it at its fullest? By completely diving in and investing, of course! When NFTs meet video games, it makes for an overall wholesome experience for both the developers and the players. NFTs pretty much allow you to own collectible digital content in all these magical universes, so you can really feel like you’re a part of their world. For example, can you imagine playing your favourite video game, being the first to unlock a new skin, and then pretty much owning that said skin? That sounds pretty amazing, doesn’t it? And what’s even better is, once you have the NFT for it, you can resell the skin to the highest bidder, with the potential to make a lot of money. This spells success for both you, and the original makers of the game who get a cut out of that payout. This cycle can go on for as long as people want to buy the skin. Apart from skins, NFTs can be attached to many other things, like cards in card-collecting games. Every card has the potential to be an NFT of its own value. NFTs really do have a bright future in gaming, especially since they’ve proven their worth to be the next evolution of in-game microtransactions. As time progresses, a lot of things change. What once started as loot boxes, went into battle passes. And then the future smacked the latter out of the question, to make way for NFTs. They’re seen as the new best way to symbiotically earn and grow.

With NFTs on the rise, there’s more and more games incorporating them into their experience… and we’ve been working on something too! Nekotopia is a game that incorporates NFTs to give you a gaming experience that’s so out of this world, that you feel like you’re really a part of the Neko realm. Keep a keen eye on our blog, because we’ll be giving you weekly updates on the game and its inner workings. Game on!
